Rachel Homan defeated Kaitlyn Lawes 8-3 on Thursday night at the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe, extending her team’s winning streak to 30 consecutive games against fellow Canadian clubs.
Rachel Homan and her Ottawa-based team continue to find new ways to secure victories over fellow Canadian teams. Their recent win over Winnipeg’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes pushed their unbeaten streak against Canadian opponents to 30 games and brought their record since the start of the 2023-24 season to an impressive 80-2.
Despite the strong numbers, the game wasn’t without challenges. Homan benefited from a crucial break in the third end by stealing two points when Lawes delivered a light and tight shot. Later, in the seventh end, Homan took a risk with a difficult shot to score a deuce.
“Homan drove Lawes’s stone out the back as it clipped a rock outside the house that then bumped another Homan stone into the rings to score the two points. Fortunately for Team Homan, the Tahoe Blue Event Center is on the Nevada side of the border, where such risks happen all the time.”
Sarah Wilkes, who throws lead stones for Team Homan, explained the significance:
“Yeah, getting two there was huge. Going into that end, we kind of talked about what was ideal. Being forced was probably the least ideal out of all the situations. Definitely got a little lucky with the way we got the two, but it was a huge momentum swing for sure.”
Lawes held the hammer in the final end trailing 6-3 and needed a last-minute “Hail Mary” shot to turn the game around, but fell short.
Rachel Homan’s team continues to showcase strategic innovation and resilience, maintaining an extraordinary winning streak against Canadian teams in the 2023-24 season.
