Canada's Rachel Homan secured her 20th Grand Slam of Curling title by defeating Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni 7-4 in the final of the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe on Sunday.
Homan's Ottawa-based team finished the tournament undefeated with a 7-0 record, taking home $42,000 from the prize purse. The lineup included third Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, and lead Sarah Wilkes.
"Yeah, it's an unbelievable feeling, especially winning a game that was a battle out there for both teams," Homan said. "It's just really fun to play such an amazing team, and being able to pull out the win is an awesome feeling."
This final marked the third consecutive Grand Slam women's final contested by the world's top two teams, with Homan winning all three. Tirinzoni's team, consisting of fourth Alina Pätz, second Carole Howald, and lead Selina Witschonke, suffered their only loss of the event, earning $34,000.
The Swiss team holds an 18-3 record in this Grand Slam season, with all three defeats coming at the hands of Homan in the finals. Starting with the hammer, Tirinzoni aimed to avoid repeating mistakes from last month's CO-OP Tour Challenge, where an early error led to a critical four-point steal by Homan.
Summary: Rachel Homan extended her record to 20 Grand Slam titles by leading her team to a perfect victory at KIOTI GSOC Tahoe, overcoming top-ranked rival Silvana Tirinzoni for the third straight final.
