In the 2013/14 season, Fenerbahçe secured their record-breaking 28th Turkish Süper Lig championship. At that time, fans of the Sarı Kanaryalar would have been surprised to learn that 12 years later, the club would still be chasing their 29th title.
During that campaign, Fenerbahçe were a dominant force in Turkish football. Their fifth league title in ten years seemed to mark the start of a new era. Key players such as strikers Moussa Sow, Emmanuel Emenike, and the veteran Dirk Kuyt performed exceptionally. Meanwhile, Turkish internationals Mehmet Topal, Alper Potuk, and goalkeeper Volkan Demirel were at their peak, helping the team finish nine points ahead of their rivals Galatasaray.
However, the expected continued dominance did not materialize. Since winning the title in 2014, Fenerbahçe have finished as league runners-up at least seven times, including the last four seasons consecutively.
"Since that 2014 triumph, Fenerbahçe have finished as runners-up on no fewer than seven occasions, including in each of the last four campaigns."
Meanwhile, Galatasaray have risen to prominence, securing the championship in the last three consecutive seasons, bringing their total to 26 titles—just two fewer than Fenerbahçe.
Fenerbahçe's 2014 league win marked the end of an era, as their rival Galatasaray has since dominated Turkish football, leaving Fenerbahçe chasing but unable to reclaim the crown.
