This home-grown wonderkid has been locked down by the Jets for another two seasons

Newcastle Jets have secured 18-year-old attacking midfielder Will Dobson until the end of the 2027–28 A-League season. The home-grown talent, a Belmont Football Club junior who only turned 18 in September, has rapidly become one of the most promising young players in the league.

Dobson made his A-League debut just over a year ago and has since impressed Jets coach Mark Milligan, earning a contract upgrade and two-year extension. Initially signed on a two-year scholarship deal, his performance has elevated him to a full A-League contract.

“We are delighted that we have been able to secure 'Dobbo' until 27–28,” Milligan said. “Will is a local player who represents what it means to come from this region and play for his hometown club. He has an excellent work ethic and tremendous potential. Fans should be excited to watch him grow as both a player and a person.”

Dobson debuted as a substitute against Melbourne City in round one of last season and went on to make 12 appearances, starting once, during the 2024–25 campaign. His contributions were vital in the Jets’ Australia Cup victory, where he scored and assisted in the quarter-final against Macarthur FC.
