Should The Habs Bring Up A Replacement for Veleno?

The majority of the Montreal Canadiens' forwards have performed well in their roles since Patrik Laine sustained a long-term sports hernia injury after the sixth game of the season. However, Joe Veleno has consistently lowered the effectiveness of any line on which he has played.

“Could it be time to bring up someone like Lucas Condotta (who has had a cup of coffee in the league) or Jared Davidson up from the Laval Rocket? Are we sure we can’t just sneak this guy into the lineup if we have him wear Veleno’s gear?” — Matt Drake (@DrakeMT), November 8, 2025

The Canadiens seem to be reaching a point where they must add a forward who can improve upon Veleno’s contributions. When placed on a line with Kirby Dach and Zack Bolduc, Veleno diminished their offensive output.

Veleno’s skills, while strong in the QMJHL, haven’t translated well to the professional level. He has adapted to a more defensive role, which might be suitable for a fourth-line position. Unfortunately, he appears to lack the necessary work ethic typical of players in that role.

Typically, a productive fourth-liner plays a tough, hard-nosed forechecking game rather than a finesse style, which does not align with Veleno’s style of play.

In summary, the Canadiens may benefit from promoting a forward with a stronger work ethic and playing style better suited to the team’s needs than Veleno.

Author's Summary: The Canadiens should consider replacing Joe Veleno with a more effective forward, as his current role and effort hinder the team’s offensive and defensive balance.
