Despite Matthew McConaughey expressing interest in reprising his role, his co-star Woody Harrelson has no plans to return to True Detective. While subsequent seasons introduced unique crime stories mixed with paranormal elements, the first season remains the most acclaimed among fans.
Woody Harrelson spoke candidly to People magazine regarding McConaughey's willingness to consider a new season if the script was compelling. Harrelson said:
“Matthew’s so funny, but in fairness, never. Not a chance.”
He also added that he is satisfied with how the original season ended and believes that attempting another would likely diminish its impact:
“I love that it turned out the way it did. If anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that.”
Both actors are set to collaborate on a half-hour comedy series for Apple TV called Brother from Another Mother, where they will play themselves living together on McConaughey's ranch.
Matthew McConaughey remains open to the possibility of a return if the script matches the quality of the original season, which he regards as the best in the series.
The upcoming project also serves to promote Texas as a hub for film and TV production.
Woody Harrelson firmly rejects returning to True Detective, valuing the original season's legacy, while both he and McConaughey pursue new creative ventures together.
