Ken Jennings, the host of the game show Jeopardy, apologized after viewers reacted negatively to a clue that labeled an online character as "AI generated."
The question aired in the category titled "Daddy, is there really a…" and stated:
No: A.I. generated the TikTok image of this pig/human eventually killed by Tim Cheese.
The clue referred to the character John Pork, a fictional figure with the head of a pig and a human body. The character is known for his humorous social media presence on Instagram and TikTok, which contrasts with his unusual appearance.
Contestants Cindy del Rosario, Sondra Venable, and Dargan Ware appeared puzzled, prompting Jennings to comment,
"I didn't understand any of that. Who is John Pork?"
After clips of the question spread on TikTok, users debated the accuracy of the clue, noting John Pork has been present on social media since 2018—before the widespread availability of generative AI.
Following the backlash, Jennings said,
"I hope you'll forgive me and all of us at Jeopardy for any insult."
Jennings’ apology acknowledges the confusion and aims to address the unintended offense related to the AI-generated claim.
