Holy Windex, Batman! Superheroes descend on UVA Health Children’s

Superheroes Visit UVA Health Children’s

Grime-fighting superheroes surprised patients by rappelling down the UVA Health Children’s hospital building while cleaning windows. A patient watched in awe as Superman descended the hospital facade.

From Joke to Spectacle

The event began as a lighthearted email joke but quickly became a thrilling occasion on Wednesday, featuring superheroes Spider-Man, Batman, Iron Man, Captain America, and Deadpool. They rappelled down the hospital to greet excited patients, families, and staff.

Planning the Superhero Window Wash

Derek Wilson, Facilities Management director at UVA Health, shared that the idea originated during the planning of routine window washing. When Warren Britts, the project manager, heard a request about Spider-Man handling the duty, he immediately set the plan in motion.

“I thought, ‘I can make that happen,’” Britts said.

Bringing in the Experts

Britts contacted Valcourt Building Services, a Virginia-based company familiar with hospital window cleaning. Knowing they had successfully executed a similar superhero-themed event in Richmond, he reached out to them, and the heroes promptly responded.

Patients, families, and staff gathered to witness the super-powered window washers at work.
