Skelton shines with Haldon Gold Cup treble at Exeter

Skelton Shines with Haldon Gold Cup Treble at Exeter

Dan Skelton delivered an outstanding performance at Exeter Racecourse, securing victory in the BetMGM Haldon Gold Cup and claiming two additional wins across seven races.

Thistle Ask's Dominant Win

Thistle Ask led from the front in the 2m1f race, setting a pace that no competitor could match. The closest challenger, Saint Segal, trained by Jane Williams, finished strongly but was seven lengths behind in second place.

“This is what Dan is all about. This horse was at the bottom of the handicap, and Dan took a brave step to run him,” said jockey Harry Skelton, riding for his brother.

Owner Terry Mckeever almost missed the event but decided last minute to travel from Warwickshire to Devon. He praised the performance:

“That was a super performance. We bought him in May for £100,000 after James Ewart quit training, and it’s been a good decision!”

Doyen Quest and Family Legacy

Doyen Quest opened the winning streak for the Skeltons in the ‘Future Stars’ Silver Bowl Novices’ Steeple Chase. The victory held special meaning for Tracey Lake Rees, whose father Norman Lake was a dedicated figure in Westcountry racing.

“He was one of Dan’s first owners when he trained Work Bench for us, and we have half a dozen horses with him now. Dad has left us a wonderful legacy, and it’s lovely to enjoy it with the family,” shared Tracey, celebrating with her brother Martin and son Josh from Torquay.

The event highlighted both professional success and cherished family connections in the racing community.

Author's summary: Dan Skelton dominated at Exeter, winning the Haldon Gold Cup and two other races, with meaningful family ties adding to the celebration.
