Manchester United defender James Overy has been selected for the Australia senior squad for the first time. The young full-back, who turns 18 this Sunday, received an early birthday gift by being included for upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia.
Born in Perth, Overy joined Manchester United in 2024 and is developing well at Carrington. He recently represented Australia at the Under-20 World Cup. This season, he has played for the Reds' Under-18 and Under-21 teams.
“It’s another opportunity to expand the depth and introduce players who have not yet been exposed to the Socceroos environment or senior international football,”
said senior coach Tony Popovic, who previously played in the Premier League with Crystal Palace. Popovic plans to assess Overy’s potential during the two friendlies in the United States.
Congratulations to James Overy and best wishes for the forthcoming internationals, as Australia starts focusing on next year’s World Cup finals in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
