Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the semifinals of the WTA Finals with a hard-earned victory over Coco Gauff. The Belarusian star faced tough resistance in the first set but ultimately triumphed 7-6 (7-5), moving closer to the tournament's final four.
Building on her momentum, Sabalenka dominated the second set, defeating Gauff 7-6, 6-2. This win set the stage for a semifinal match against fellow American Amanda Anisimova.
Before the match, much attention was given to Sabalenka’s on-court attitude, especially after she shouted at her team during a recent win over Jessica Pegula. This incident prompted coach Anton Dubrov to leave the court.
Sky Sports analyst Tim Henman closely observed Sabalenka’s team during the match against Gauff and noted the atmosphere in her player box.
“In the important moments, when I was courtside and looking across at her player box, they looked unbelievably tense,” said Henman. “They weren’t really contributing a great deal, because [Aryna] Sabalenka was looking pretty volatile.”
Although there appears to be some unrest within Sabalenka’s camp, her on-court performance remained outstanding.
“The quality of tennis was absolutely phenomenal,” Henman remarked.
Aryna Sabalenka overcame personal and team tensions to deliver an exceptional win, advancing confidently to the WTA Finals semifinals.
