“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.”
Angus Provost Craig Fotheringham spoke about the Remembrance Sunday services on 9 November, which will include parades across Angus and the laying of wreaths to honor all those who gave their lives defending our freedoms.
He encouraged everyone who is able to take a moment to join their community at these important events to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. For those unable to attend, he requested taking a quiet moment alone or with loved ones to remember the fallen.
Tuesday, 11 November, marks Armistice Day, offering another occasion to pay respects. At 11 am, whether at home or work, people are asked to stop and observe two minutes of silence to honor the bravery and selflessness of the Armed Services.
“We must and will remember them.”
Provost Fotheringham also expressed gratitude to the service men and women who continue to serve the nation, near and far. As they protect the country, the community pledges to support them.
He noted that recent years have been marked by uncertain times, with the harsh realities of war broadcast through various media channels.
Summary: Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day call communities to honor sacrifice, reflect on bravery, and support those still serving amid ongoing global uncertainties.
