Elder Gérald Caussé Is Called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Elder Gérald Caussé has been appointed as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The calling took place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, and he was ordained that same day by President Dallin H. Oaks and other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been at the center of my life. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the greatest responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives.”

— Elder Gérald Caussé

The Apostles serve as special witnesses of the name of Christ throughout the world. They also assume major administrative duties, directing the Church’s global operations and development. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles functions as the second-highest governing body of the Church, operating under the leadership of the First Presidency, which consists of the Church President and two counselors.

At age 62, Elder Caussé, a native of Bordeaux, France, had served as the Church’s Presiding Bishop for 11 years at the time of his call. He was the third Presiding Bishop born outside the United States and the first for whom English is a second language.
