Former NFL player Antonio Brown has returned to the United States to face trial concerning a shooting incident that took place in Miami nearly six months ago.
Police confirmed that Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai and taken into custody at Newark Airport in Essex County, New Jersey. He is expected to be transferred to South Florida, although authorities have not provided details on the timing.
The arrest warrant for Brown was issued in June. At that time, police knew he was overseas but did not disclose his exact location. After the warrant issuance, Brown hired an attorney who secured a $10,000 bond that included house arrest conditions. However, Brown did not return to South Florida and instead shared images and videos from Dubai, some seeming to mock the charges he faced in Miami.
U.S. Marshals traveled abroad to apprehend Brown and bring him back to the United States.
The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. on May 17 near 221 NE 67th St. Police responded after the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system alerted them, but no arrests were made at that time and no injuries were reported following officer interviews with several people at the scene.
