Violent Clashes in Lahore as Anti-Israel Protest Turns Deadly
At least one police officer and three protesters were killed in Lahore as members of the far-Right Islamist party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) clashed with security personnel during a protest against Israel over the war on Gaza.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif condemned the TLP protest, calling it an "insult to religion". The clashes occurred while Pakistan PM Sharif is in Egypt to attend the signing of the Trump-brokered Gaza peace plan.
- The TLP had called for the march ahead of US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire deal to end the Gaza war.
- The march started on Friday, with TLP members vowing to stage a pro-Palestinian demonstration outside the US embassy.
