Former NFL player Antonio Brown waived extradition before a New Jersey judge on Friday as he prepares to return to Miami to face attempted murder charges. The accusations stem from an incident last spring when Brown allegedly fired shots during a crowded event.
U.S. Marshals extradited the 37-year-old from Dubai and handed him over to the Newark Port Authority, which placed him in Essex County Jail. Following the hearing, he was returned to custody and now awaits transfer to Florida, prosecutors said. The timeline for his transfer remains uncertain.
“It wasn't clear how long Brown had been in Dubai,” authorities noted, though he had shared multiple social media posts from there in recent months.
According to an arrest warrant, the alleged shooting took place on May 16 after a boxing event. Brown reportedly took a handgun from a security officer and fired two shots at a man he had previously fought with. The victim, identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators that one bullet grazed his neck.
If convicted of second-degree attempted murder, Brown could face up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. It remains unclear whether he has retained legal representation.
