TV doctor Dr Hilary Jones opened up about a past moment on Lorraine Kelly’s show when he appeared on air after celebrating too much the night before. The long-time medical expert on the morning program recalled the incident with humor and relief.
Reflecting on his early days on the show, the 72-year-old doctor described how the slip happened after running the New York Marathon and celebrating with his two brothers. Without having eaten, he joined the broadcast from a remote studio in Times Square.
“I’d run the New York Marathon and met up with two of my brothers to celebrate. Of course, I hadn’t eaten, hadn’t drunk water, and there was a lot of beer. I was scheduled to do a live segment with Lorraine,” he said.
Dr Hilary explained that while setting up the equipment, he was suddenly live on air. He admitted that during the segment he couldn’t stop laughing and talking nonsense because he was “a bit drunk.”
“Afterwards I thought, ‘They’re going to sack me. What did I say?’” he recalled.
The next day, fearing disciplinary action, Dr Hilary phoned the show’s producers to apologise for his unprofessional appearance.
“I phoned them and said, ‘I’m really sorry,’ and they said, ‘Why? You sounded brilliant — just happy, euphoric, and full of energy,’” he shared.
The hosts reassured him that everything had gone well, and he later laughed it off as one of his most unforgettable live television experiences.
Dr Hilary Jones humorously recounted a rare lapse during a Lorraine broadcast when he went live slightly drunk after a marathon celebration, only to find out viewers loved his energy.
