West Yorkshire Police have charged three inmates—Mark Fellows, 45, Lee Newell, 56, and David Taylor, 63—with the murder of Kyle Bevan, 33, at HMP Wakefield.
Officers responded to reports of an inmate found dead in his cell at around 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday. The man's death was treated as suspicious by the police.
The Prison Service confirmed that the deceased was Kyle Bevan, serving a life sentence for the brutal murder of his partner's two-year-old daughter, Lola James, in 2020 in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.
"Bevan had been ordered to serve at least 28 years after being found guilty of subjecting the toddler to a horrific six-hour assault that caused catastrophic head injuries."
Doctors compared Lola's injuries to those seen in high-speed car crashes. She had 101 scratches and bruises over her body, with indications that weapons had been used during the attack.
Bevan, a known drug user from Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, had moved into Lola's mother Sinead James’s home shortly after meeting her on Facebook.
"The case took place at the same notorious jail where Ian Watkins was stabbed to death."
This violent incident at HMP Wakefield adds to the prison's troubled history with inmate deaths.
The murder of Kyle Bevan by fellow inmates at HMP Wakefield highlights ongoing safety concerns within high-security prisons.
