James Overy, a 17-year-old defender from Manchester United's academy, has been called up to join Australia's national squad for friendly matches against Colombia and Venezuela. The selection reflects coach Tony Popovic’s intention to deepen his roster ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Overy, who joined United’s youth setup last year, has not yet made a senior appearance for the Premier League club, but his role at the under-20 World Cup showcased his promise. The 26-man squad released this week includes seven players seeking their first international cap.

Coach Popovic has also welcomed back experienced midfielders Jackson Irvine and Riley McGree following their recovery from injuries. Veteran winger Craig Goodwin rejoins the national team for the first time since March after returning to Adelaide City in the A-League.
