Olivier Rioux created a stir as he made his debut for the University of Florida, officially becoming the tallest player ever to compete in US college basketball. The 19-year-old Canadian stands at 236 centimeters, surpassing NBA legends Gheorghe Mureșan and Manute Bol by five centimeters.
Rioux received a standing ovation when he entered the game with just over two minutes remaining in Florida’s 104–64 win over North Florida. Fans at the O'Connell Center chanted “We want Ollie,” prompting coach Todd Golden to put him in the game — a decision that instantly made history.
The crowd erupted as Rioux stepped onto the court, and even players from the opposing team couldn’t help but smile. North Florida’s Trey Cady laughed as he compared his own height with Rioux’s towering frame, giving up more than a foot in the matchup.
"The support from everybody was amazing, even on the bench and even the fans. I think everybody supported me. I'm very grateful."

The young center didn’t touch the ball during his brief appearance but left an unforgettable impression on the court and in the stands.
