The Toronto Blue Jays, fresh off a World Series loss, now face a critical offseason as they prepare to rebuild for another championship run. Several key players are entering free agency, including shortstop Bo Bichette.
Bichette is expected to pursue a top-tier contract, potentially among the highest paid at his position. However, Toronto may be hesitant to offer such a deal, especially if they believe his defensive metrics could push a position change in the near future. His offensive production remains his biggest asset and will likely attract strong offers elsewhere.
Sports analyst Rymer suggested that Bichette’s departure appears “likely” and proposed a trade that could reshape the Blue Jays’ infield. The deal would bring Cleveland Guardians star José Ramírez to Toronto.
“The Blue Jays reportedly attempted to trade for Ramírez back in 2022,” wrote Rymer. “They’ll need to make bold moves this winter if they want to maximize their chances of defending their AL pennant. A trade for Ramírez would soften the blow of Bo Bichette’s likely departure.”
In return, Cleveland would receive two top-100 prospects and an MLB-ready third baseman in Addison Barger, who enjoyed a breakout season at age 25.
Ramírez is a seven-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger. His consistent offensive output and leadership could provide Toronto the veteran presence they need to remain competitive in the American League.
If Bichette exits in free agency, acquiring Ramírez could keep the Blue Jays in title contention while maintaining a potent core alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
