“TODAY” co-anchor Craig Melvin revisited his hometown of Columbia, South Carolina, nearly a year after taking over co-hosting duties from Hoda Kotb. The trip marked a personal and emotional return to his roots.
During his visit, Melvin descended the steps of his old preschool and entered the room where he first learned to read. Overcome with emotion, he admitted that the moment brought him to tears and called it the highlight of his trip.
“Columbia is just such a warm hug for me every time I go back,” Melvin said.
Melvin reflected on the changes since stepping into the co-anchor role at “TODAY.” He described 2025 as a year of learning and adapting to the fast-paced demands of the position.
“You don't just host the show, you're not just one of the pieces of the show,” he said.
His schedule is nonstop — covering multiple cities in a week, attending fundraisers, hosting town halls, engaging with viewers, and continuing his reporting work alongside his anchoring duties.
Craig Melvin’s heartfelt return to Columbia reflects his deep connection to his hometown, balancing nostalgia with the demanding rhythm of his life as a national morning show co-anchor.
