On Tuesday, November 11, several events will be held throughout Surrey to honour the service, courage, and sacrifice of Canada's veterans.
“Remembrance Day is an opportunity for us to come together and reflect on the steadfast dedication of Canada’s veterans and those who continue to serve,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Their legacy lives on in the freedoms we enjoy and the communities we build. I encourage everyone to take a moment during Veterans Week and on Remembrance Day to reflect and express appreciation for the commitment and courage of our veterans and service members.”
Residents are advised to arrive early to secure parking or use alternative transportation such as bicycles or public transit. The largest ceremony will take place at Veterans Square in Cloverdale, organized by the Royal Canadian Legion Cloverdale Branch and livestreamed on the City of Surrey’s Facebook page.
The Museum of Surrey at 17710 56A Avenue will remain open to visitors until 1 p.m. Meanwhile, at Surrey Centre Cemetery, attendees may place carnations at veterans’ memorial sites starting at 10:45 a.m. The City has also launched an online searchable map for locating veterans or loved ones interred at city-operated cemeteries.
