Aimee Lou Wood revealed she struggled with body dysmorphia while filming bikini scenes as Chelsea in the third season of the Emmy-nominated HBO series The White Lotus. The 31-year-old actress told Harper's Bazaar,
“I shook myself out of it by thinking, ‘It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does.’”
She explained that Chelsea’s optimistic and spiritual outlook helped her embrace her character’s confidence. “The line between me and her [Chelsea] started to blur,” Aimee shared.
The success of The White Lotus thrust Aimee into the spotlight more than ever, leading to frequent visits to Los Angeles for work and press. Despite the glamour of LA, she expressed mixed feelings about the city:
“I find LA emotionally bulimic, and I say that as an ex-bulimic. It is this super-sized adventure where everyone’s talking about you all the time and you have to talk about yourself all the time.”
Aimee Lou Wood drew strength from her character Chelsea’s confidence during filming, while navigating personal struggles with body image amid the intense spotlight of Hollywood.
