The French government has launched a suspension process against the online commerce platform Shein. The decision follows the discovery of illegal content, including child pornography, being sold on the website.
“A suspension is in place for the time necessary for the platform to demonstrate to the authorities that all of its content complies with our laws and regulations,”
stated the government’s official release. A detailed report is expected within 48 hours, to be presented by the concerned ministers.
This measure was taken after the Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) exposed the sale of child-like sex dolls on Shein. The case has been transferred to judicial authorities, signifying a decisive step in regulating digital commerce platforms.
Ironically, the announcement coincided with the opening of Shein’s first physical boutique inside the BHV department store in Paris—an event now completely overshadowed by the controversy. Authorities warned that if further violations occur, Shein’s access to the French market could be permanently blocked.
France suspends Shein’s operations following the discovery of illegal content, highlighting stronger state control over online platforms distributing sensitive material.
