Australia’s Matthew Short highlights the difficulty Varun Chakravarthy presents with his pace and variations as teams prepare for spin-friendly conditions at next year’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Varun Chakravarthy has taken four wickets in two innings so far during the T20I series, playing a vital role in India’s efforts to win the series in Australia.
The Australian team is intensifying its preparation to counter Varun’s spin before the World Cup.
“What makes it harder is just how quick he bowls,” said Matthew Short on the eve of the fourth T20I at Carrara in Gold Coast.
Short added,
“We’ve obviously watched a lot of footage and whatnot. But yeah, that’s probably going to be the other challenge heading to India if it is spinning or in Sri Lanka as well.”
Short noted that Australian pitches offer less spin compared to the subcontinent, making Varun a particularly challenging opponent.
“Here in Australia, there’s probably not as much spin as it is in the subcontinent, obviously. But yeah, he’s a tough one and one we’ll have to look out for,” he explained.
As Australia look to finalize their T20 World Cup squad, Short is relishing the chance to face elite Indian bowlers, while acknowledging the upcoming conditions will be very different.
“There are always ways to improve,” he said.
